Boys Won’t Be Boys is a theatre collective created by Rikkert van Huisstede. It seeks to eradicate stereotypes of gender in general and masculinity in particular, through performance arts of various kinds. Vulnerability is at the core of both the show and our message: we perform (/don't perform) as ourselves. At the end of every show, artistic leader Rikkert van Huisstede confesses: “This actually wasn’t a show. These are our lives.” This photo series, created during the 2021 lockdown, captures that message. You see the Boys Won’t Be Boys performers in their own homes, just as they are. Extravagant boys, emotional dads, quiet non-binary persons. Soft, elegant, insecure, proud, sensual, sweet.
